We know that too often, opportunities seem to skip even our most talented residents. It’s not because they don’t have work ethnic or that that don’t have the instincts to succeed. What they need is opportunities and resources.
We have seen in the city how targeted tax cuts and benefits have helped give small business compete. Why can’t the same be done for our families.
To help spur economic development, as your City Councilman, I will push for the creation of Economic Impact Zones: We’ll take the zip codes that need the most help -- the ones that have food deserts, health deserts, the one where people earn the least amount of money. -- and
Provide tax benefits and credits to not just business who invest in the area, but to individual residents who continue to live and work in the community.
Lower or eliminate fees and fines that are not affordable based on the AMI of the local area. While the city needs money, we can’t fee and fine our way to prosperity.
Freeze rent increases so that families can more money left over to purchase necessities in the community.
Provide subsidies so that residents who shop in the district receive discounts, while small businesses get new clientele, keeping capital circulating in the community.
Grants and PPP-style micro-loans for residents not just for small business also short-term expenses that help stabilize families.
Provide building-based WiFi and broadband so that residents can use the Internet to learn and launch technology-based careers and businesses from their home.
If we can flood law enforcement resources to combat high crime, then we can employ the same strategy to economically lift our children and families.
